Space Engine is an option for a universe sandbox. It does not exceed expectations, as number 2 completely redid the engine of the game and graphics improved it immensely.

Universe Sandbox Legacy is the first entry in the series. It is an attempt meant to emulate the emptiness of space but that falls short. The application could use some direct objectives, as the player is left to grasp for fun. It works with Windows, macOS, Linux, and Ubuntu while also being available for virtual reality experiences.
